Operation Good Thing

Thank you for your interest in OPERATION GOOD THING!

Here’s how the project works: You buy a duffle bag (an O.G.T. Street Pack) from us and we mail it to you. Your Street Pack is empty, so we ask you to fill it up. We provide a shopping list to guide you, and you make this part of your Christmas shopping experience. When your Street Pack is full, you simply bring it to one of several drop-off locations across the GTA. These packs will be distributed at Christmastime to homeless youth and adults who are in the greatest need.

Your Street Pack will bring joy to a homeless friend who will be much better equipped to face the winter because of your kindness. That’s a good thing, but it does little to answer any long term concerns. Therefore, we team up with some of the most effective street outreach agencies* in the GTA, to help us distribute the Street Packs. This way, the pack that you assemble is guaranteed to be a very practical and meaningful part of a comprehensive, ongoing strategy of care. That’s a really good thing!

PURPOSE The purpose of Operation Good Thing is to promote the awareness and practical involvement of caring people in significant street issues. The success of this project stems from meeting three important goals:

1. To bring immediate care and hope to the streets of Toronto with a high degree of dignity.
2. To create awareness, awake compassion and spark meaningful action from people who want to make a difference.
3. To affirm, advocate, and assist several credible street outreach agencies as they faithfully care for those in need.

4 OPTIONS TO CONSIDER!

Option 1: OGT Street Pack
$20.00 Your purchase price for an O.G.T. Street Pack includes a water resistant duffle bag, Bible*, project administration expenses and mailing costs.
Items to purchase for your O.G.T. Street Pack:A cold-weather Sleeping, gloves, a toque, socks, soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a hairbrush, a flashlight, restaurant gift card / certificates (ie: McDonalds, Tim Hortons…), a chocolate bar, a candy cane and a Christmas card. *A soft cover Bible will be added to each completed pack just before distribution.

Option 2: OGT Personal Pack
$10.00 Your purchase price for an O.G.T. Care Kit includes a water resistant draw-string bag, project administration expenses and mailing costs.
Items to purchase for your O.G.T. Care Kit:socks, underwear, soap, a toothbrush and tooth paste, a hairbrush, throat lozenges, facial tissue, restaurant gift card / certificates (ie: McDonalds, Tim Hortons…).
Estimated total of a completed O.G.T. Care Kit: $50.00

Note – completed kits needs to be dropped off at one of 7 drop-off locations by December 17, 2009. They will be collected and then taken to the street agencies during that week. Light Patrol’s Christmas party will be on December 22 when their kits will be distributed.
